Strom Thirteen.
Hello.
A summery splinter hot newsletter to pass on some travel movement, recordings, shopping secrets and information. please remember if you do not wish this infrequent email to reach you then just let me know.
It's been a fine start to the summer in scannerland - a recent birthday was doubly celebratory when i learnt at a star studded dinner that I was a lucky winner of the Imaginaria 99 Digital Arts award at the ICA in London. Dubbed 'the Digital Turner Arts Prize' it means that i get to work on a new project with colleague Paul Farrington, designer supreme, towards a showing for one month at the ICA in October this yea, an installation entitled 'Sound Polaroids,' and within the next week you will be invited to contribute towards this in a special way. stay patient for now.
A sound work of mine can be heard on tour in Germany at the moment accompanying work by product designers Fiona Raby and Anthony Dunne. Entitled Lost and Found and promoted by the British Council it recently opened at the Museum fur Kunsthandwerk in Frankfurt. another soundtrack as part of Plain Magic, formulated by Moti Roti, the ground breaking arts UK company, will open on 4th July in London and travel around the UK until August.
Again if you are in Germany or have web access do not hesitate to check into New Forms: Contemporary Electronic Music in the Context of Art curated by Carsten Nicolai/Noton. Set in Leipzig a series of bi weekly concerts up until September this year feature amongst many others: Thomas Brinkmann, Richie Hawtin, Goem, Ryoji Ikeda, Pan Sonic, Signal, Ivan Pavlov, Francisco Lopez et al. The Bauhaus Dessau are archiving much of the shows at their web magazine "Contour.net" (http://www.contour.net).
The release schedule for Sulphur has been formulated for the year to come - with my new album Lauwarm Instrumentals out on July 5th 1999, followed later with releases by Michael Wells/Signs Ov Chaos now recording as S.O.L.O, Japanese EasioJazz Musak from eureka!, extended collaborations with DJ Spooky, Stephen Vitellio and others.
As always thanks for all your support you have given me and i will endeavour to keep in touch, time table permitting.
all the best
robin rimbaud
