La Gaîté Lyrique Paris France
With interactive lighting design by United Visual Artists
01-06 March 2011
Based upon writings by the poet Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867), Les Fenêtres uses readings of the text sliced and choreographed into a spiraling pattern of words, breathes and the spaces in between words. A generative light system responds in real time to the sound, building to a synesthetic peak.
This interactive work focuses on the body in the digital domain, combining the real with the imagined, playing with the illusion of the (non-present) physical sound source and presence of the spectator. The work deconstructs meaning through the physicality of sound.
This installation was part of Rien a Cacher / Rien a Craindre with UVA as the first artists in residence at la Gaîté lyrique in Paris..
Over 14.000 people saw the installation over six days from 1-6 March 2011.
