A Manual for the 21st Century
Impakt Festival
Utrecht The Netherlands
This performance work was a suggestion towards a new type of communication.
As language is eradicated and adapted through technology and words become cropped,
edited and manipulated, it is quite viable that a new means of telepathic feedback
will evolve.
An audio/visual presentation on two large video screens either side of the stage,
one could see the images of two closely focused faces, one female, one male.
The two figures would be looking at one another, communicating and passing language
to the other intuitively but the language would not be one we could recognise.
It would take the spaces in between meaning and mould them into a fresh narrative.Their
lips would remain sealed. Broken syllables, implied meaning, split language.
The stereo mix implicated which voice emitted from which head, one from the
left, one from the right. The audiences attention would be deflected from one
side of the room to the other, language spilling across the space, as I mixed
the sound on a central stage, into a rhythmic based nexus point.
